Problems with the site

We have had an issue reported about logins resulting in seeing other students accounts/work. We are investigating. In order to fix problems like this we need to be able to replicate them so we can see exactly what is happening. If you hit this problem, please record in detail what you were doing at the time and post to the forum where I have started a new discussion topic. We have also had some people saying graphics are not uploading or displaying. There is a limit to the file size that can be uploaded. Mostly this should not affect things like jpgs but it could affect video since these files tend to be very large. The advice is to only upload samples of video or make links to a site like You Tube that is designed for playing video if your video is long. Just refer to it in your Blog, maybe illustrate with a short clip. There is quite a lot about file size issues in the Silver INGOT. Links there in the version of this text in the forum.

For attaching and displaying pictures,

1. Upload the image to the server.

You have to do this so that the community site can get it no matter where you are in the world. If you put the local file path to your computer or the school network, it would only work when you are connected from those places. Someone in say the USA would not have access to the file.

2. The server indicates the URL of the image. It is something like:

http://theingots.org/community/files/active/0/Firefox.png

When the image is on the server it is available to anyone that is using the INGOT community site anywhere in the world.

3. Insert an image tag pointing to that URL.

This tells the system where to find the image and how to display it.

Instead, some people have been doing any of the following:

* Haven't uploaded the image.

* Uploaded the image, but the URL entered actually points to the
local disk rather than a place on the Internet. E:\Files\Firefox.png

* Uploaded the image, but instead of entering the URL of the image,
they only enter the image name "Firefox.png".

Uploading and attaching video and audio files works in the same way.

You always have to upload the file and then you can do something with it.

It might just be there to be download or it might need to fit into the body of the blog.

Planning needs to take into account and technical limitations.
