The Bronze INGOTs are entry level certificates that each require between 10 and 20 hours of study and practice for a complete beginner. Achieving a bronze certificate is not age dependent but capability dependent. When an accredited Bronze INGOT assessor is satisfied that the student can competently match the criteria, a Bronze INGOT certificate can be awarded.

How to teach the INGOT criteria

As the teacher, you decide how to teach to cover the INGOT criteria. But here are some ideas that you might find useful.

Suggestion for Bronze

We have prepared a set of sample lessons to support the Bronze 2 and Bronze 3 certificates. The zip file includes the lessons in PDF and ODF format, as well as a set of supporting files.

Here there is a quiz to help with naming the parts of a computer for the Bronze 1 certificate. Thanks to Mr Ray Tolley.

Suggestion for Bronze

Get a copy of the OpenOffice.org Getting Started Guide (buy/ download pdf logo) and cover chapters 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9. If time allows, cover chapter 13.

Suggestion for Bronze

Itrainonline has 3-hour lessons for OpenOffice.org Writer and OpenOffice.org Impress. Use the OpenOffice.org Getting Started Guide chapter 8 for the drawing component.

How to explain open source

For the Bronze level, the pupil should gain a basic (non-technical) understanding of what open source is. See the Japanese Fruit Grower fairy tale.
