I have learnt that it is set up in over 196 different counties. Moodle was set up in 1999. it gets its resources from donations from the public and from software that is paid for. Moodle has a GPL licence which stands for general public licence which grant the recipients of a computer program the rights of the free software definition and uses copyleft to ensure the freedoms are preserved, even when the work is changed or added to. This is in distinction to permissive free software licences, of which the BSD licenses are the standard examples.

The Developer

Martin Dougiamas is one of the main personal associated with the project. He lives in Australia and works on moodle development. He Started work in 1986 on early Internet and web applications at Curtin University, Australia, now a notable alumnus. It is his full time job; it started as his hobby, grew into the subject of his PhD thesis, and has become his life.
