Transporting to Watford

Through the friend of a friend, I was lucky enough to catch a Hi-ab - a lorry with an hydraulic crane - returning empty after delivering a heavy load in Scotland.

On 4th April 2007 at about 10:00am, we were preparing to leave the farm in Yorkshire:

After a rapid journey down the M1, at about 3:00pm the same day, we were unloading at the boatyard near Watford:

You might wonder, if the boat was mounted on a 4-wheel trailer, why didn't we simply tow it down the motorway? Unfortunately, the trailer's frame, wheel mountings and braking system were badly rusted, and eventually it was towed away for scrap.

Since then we've been fortunate to obtain a used trailer in very good condition from another Atalanta owner.

At Watford, we used a couple of car jacks to raise "Taka Maru" onto wooden beams set across oil drums.
