Audacity also has some disadvantages/weaknesses over its competitors. As Audacity is free, it is expected to have fewer features which are not as exciting as the ones in the competitors’ suite. Audacity cannot export as HD or convert any text into speech. Audacity is more susceptible to viruses and spyware as it is open source and anyone can edit it and distribute freely. Audacity is very basic compared to its competitors. Audacity does not contain as many effects for the audio recordings or music so the final recording will not be as exciting as you would want it to be. Also, Audacity does not have many editing tools. Audacity has 6 editing tools which are:
- Selection Tool-allows you to select parts of the music of which you wish to edit
- Envelope Tool-allows you to edit the recording by fading in or out.
- Draw tool-when zoomed in enough, you can edit the recording wave
- Zoom tool-allows you to zoom into selected parts of the recording
- Time-shift tool-allows you to move selected parts of the recording into different time positions.
- Multi-tool mode-allows you to carry out lots of the tools at the same time. Example: draw and selection tool
