Desktop Environments
This is a set of programs which control how information is displayed on-screen and how the user interacts with the computer.
On OpenSUSE, you can choose from a variety of different desktop environments, the main ones being GNOME, KDE, XFCE and LXDE.
Examples of each desktop environment are shown below:
GNOME - The GNOME desktop is a clean, tidy and simple to use desktop. GNOME is also free because it is part of the GNU project.
KDE - KDE has a modern look. It comes with some helpful applications such as Konqueror web browser, dolphin file manager. It also somes with a wide range of media applications, netowrking and games.
XFCE - Xfce is made for older computers and laptops, because it is lightweight, and doesn't require much system resources to run it.
LXDE - LXDE is also made for older computers, because it requires a lot less RAM than other desktop environments. It runs quite fast and reliably.
