Types of storage and file

Disk drive
The hard disk is where all the data that is on your computer is stored, there is magnetic material, and this is where the data is stored. This causes the hard disk to be known as a magnetic storage device.

Floppy Disk
Floppy disks are a type of device that you can store data on your computer on for other use. They don’t store that much data, so more modern computers are now being made without a drive for floppy disks. Like the Hard disk, they have magnetic storage.

USB Memory Stick
Memory sticks are a storage device that go in the USB point on computers. These store quite a lot of data, ranging from 1GB to 8GBs.
This means it is the storage item of choice for a lot of people.

CD
There are multiple types of CDs you can use.
CD-ROM: These are “Read only memory”, you cannot change any of the material inside it, nowadays these are usually used for things like games.
CD-WORM: This is “Write once-read many”, it means you can save data to it once, and then it becomes a CD-ROM.
CD-RW: This stands for “Read write” you may save and delete files on it as many times as you like, just like a memory stick or floppy disk. This is the most common type of CD.
