What does Back-up mean?
Backup means copying files to a second medium (an external hard drive, CD/DVD/Blu-ray, USB flash drive, network location, FTP/SFTP server, tape, ...) as a precaution in case the first medium fails. A very important rule is to back up your files regularly. To protect your documents you should create 2 or more backups and keep them in different locations. |

What precautions can you take to protect backups? Don't leave them anywhere lying around because they can come very important when your computer has crashed down. Try to store them on a shelf or somewhere safe where you can easily see it. If you are using emails to back-up your work keep your password safe or hackers might get into it. Help in the side bar. |

Why is Back-Up important? It's important because if you're computer crashes all your work will be lost and if you had anything important on your laptop/computer everything will be lost. of course you wouldn't want that to happen as it's a very bad thing as it could get you into a lot of trouble. For instance tomorrow is your deadline for the history project and your computer had crashed down there wouldn't be anything you could do about it. however, if you had backed up all your work on a USB stick or on a CD you would be ready to hand it in.
