Audacity does have competitors! Examples of competitors include:

Adobe Audition is the most common and popular of the other competitors. Adobe Audition is a more professional suite of sound recording and editing software. It is very expensive costing at around £179 ($349)! Adobe Audition is used with major recording labels and companies to create the best music tracks or recordings.

The Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio is a bit more expensive than Audition costing around £197.95. A major difference between Sound Forge and Audition is that with Sound Forge, you can create music and recordings for videos and compile them together. Also, Sound Forge can export videos as HD in 720p and 1080i.

Easy Audio Editor is the cheapest of the competitors costing around £17.92 ($34.95). Easy Audio Editor is available as a free version of purchasable version. Easy Audio Editor can change text into speech and can extract audio from videos.
