1. The learner will repeat, copy or imitate between 10 and 50 single words, signs or phrases.
 
1.1 I can communicate using familiar objects.
The learner is able to use objects or items that are familiar to them to communicate with others, for example, holding up a piece of fruit to demonstrate they are hungry.
 
Evidence: Direct observation, planning records and documentation of day to day activities. 
 
1.2 I can communicate using a preferred method.
The learner is able to communicate with others, using a method that they are comfortable and familiar with, for example, signs or symbols.

1.3 I can communicate between 10 and 50 words, signs or phrases.
The learner is able to demonstrate knowledge of between 10 and 50 words, signs or phrases using a preferred method to communicate with others.

2.1 I can use single words, signs or symbols for familiar objects.
The learner is able to identify familiar objects using a preferred method, for example, cup, biscuit or phone.

2.2 I can combine sound and gesture to indicate a need or an object.
The learner is able demonstrate a requirement or a desire for an item by combining sound and gesture, for example, pointing and saying a single word, i.e, cup.

3. The learner will communicate about events and feelings.
 
3.1 I can communicate about events.
The learner is able to use a preferred method to communicate about events, for example, what they have got for lunch, where they have been on a trip.

The learner can use a preferred method to communicate about their feelinngs, for example, thier likes and dislikes.
