It was decided early on and the NA was notified that we would rationalise to two related web sites. We have developed the technology in Drupal so that all the facilities we originally had and planned to improve in Moodle could be achieved in Drupal providing a better end-user experience. The Markbook web site is a LAMP Stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) It is implemented using Ajax to make use feel like a desktop application even though everything is Cloud based. The Markbook site holds all the primary data from learner names, gender, DOB to assessor details centre details and certificate details. Only authorised assessors can use this site and it is used to make returns to the regulators. The site has had many improvements as a result of the project the most significant being facilities to translate the user interface and criteria into many languages and to monitor progress. Another very important development is the improvements to the moderator interface so that moderation can take place anywhere in the world and it is possible to delegate moderation to partners. Link to the Markbook site (Login with username assessor1 and password assessor1) There is also a moderator interface but we have no way to make this a secure guest login. Screen shot below shows some information from this.
The Community Learning Site is built in the Drupal content management system. We have developed this with custom modules to enable grouping and dynamic links with the Markbook site. For example pages can be generated dynamically and automatically with the assessment criteria together with the relevant language translations from the Markbook site. This enables us to delegate more freedom for user participation. In the near future the site will reach 30,000 pages. Particular developments that went beyond original plans include providing a system for managing the passing of evidence between learners and assessors that is also linked to the Markbook. This will encourage self-assessment, peer assessment and assessor verification cutting out much of the administrative overhead that has made this practice difficult to achieve in routine teaching and learning.
