Bronze 1 example SOW - Not mandatory, adjust to meet your own context but ensure learning outcomes can be evidenced through assessment criteria linked to the activities. The contexts here are carefully chosen to support progression later where use of the internet and associated open standards is becoming more and more important.

Anchor 1

Activity 1:- Using Web Applications

Contributing activities:

Resources:

  • Logging on and starting the web browser.

  • Playing some web based games and puzzles.

  • Discuss the games with friends.

  • Computer with web browser and instructions how to get started. (pictorial, written and/or verbal).

  • Games and puzzles from the INGOT site main menu - Resources - Games.

  • Any other web based games and resources that provide an interest and focus for discussion.

UK National Curriculum references. They recognise that many everyday devices respond to signals and instructions. They make choices when using such devices to produce different outcomes. They talk about their use of ICT.

 

Anchor 2

Activity 2:- Staying safe on the internet

Contributing activities:

Resources:

  • Identifying unsafe situations when using IT
  • Planning to find out about IT safety
  • Co-operating and working safely
 
 

UK National Curriculum references. Use on-line resources to identify unsafe situations, use information to draw up a simple plan to decide the three most important dangers. Demonstrate working safely with others.

 

Anchor 3

Activity 3:- Finding out more about computers

Contributing activities:

Resources:

  • Explore information about computers from various sources, showing they know that information exists in different forms.
  • Identify the advantages of using IT for this task.
  • Discussing these with assessor and group
  • Picture books, magazines with a range of computer devices including mobile phones, laptops, tablet pcs, satnav etc.
  • Prepared internet information from known useful URLs.

Use ICT safely by following instructions. Navigate on-screen resources to explore and locate information. Capture information and share their work with others. Work with text, images and sound to explore and share their ideas.

Activity 4:- My ideas and sharing them with others

  • Recording their ideas about using computers using digital sound recorder.
  • Making a simple podcast for others to use.
  • Correcting mistakes in their recordings.
  • Audacity sound recording software, computer with microphone.

UK National Curriculum references. Work with text, images and sound to explore and share their ideas.Explore how devices respond to commands. Capture information and share their work with others. They understand that work can be saved and retrieved for later use.

Activity 5:- Planning to write a story 1

  • Exploring stories on-line and in books.
  • What will my story be about?
  • A beginning, a middle and an end.

Activity 6:- Planning to write a story 2

Contributing activities:

  • Writing a story using an editor and prepared phrases and pictures.
  • Making sure my story has a beginning, middle and end.
  • Sharing my story with other people and making suggestions for improvements.

Word processor, on-line page editor eg on the INGOT learning site or Tux Club.
